By the end of the 80’ he founded the folk dancing ensemble Goce Delcev in Bitola. He works as a choreographer but he explores the traditional dances in many rural regions in Vardar, Pirin and Aegean Macedonia. He put on stage a number of dance “medleys” from deferent regions. He is a holder of few state and international recognitions and rewards for his work.
Edin Azizi is from Kunaovo. He danced with the Amateur Folk Dancing group “Emin Duraku” from Skopje, “Pance Pesev” (Panche Pesherv) from Kumanovo and later on with Tanec. He founded the Folk Dancing group “Toska” which works within the Center of Culture of the city of Kumanovo. He has been engaged as a dance choreographer in most of the folk dancing groups in Kumanovo. He equally does Macedonian, Albanian as well as the dunces of the rest of the minorities in Macedonia.
Mahmut Muzafer, based in Skopje, Macedonia, is the legend of national Roma zurla/zourna music and his reputation goes far beyond of the Macedonian borders. "Zourna & tapan" music is the music traditionally performed (also) at Balkan weddings and other festivities to drive away evil spirits. It has been always roots music and walked and developed upon its own way, not influenced by the trends of international or Roma pop music, mainly based on zourna player's talents to improvise. Mahmut comes from a long family tree of legendary zourna players. His father, grandfather and great-grandfather ranked among the top ones in the Balkans of their times. World music enthusiasts discovered Mahmut's music in the seventies and since then he has been a regular mentor at Balkan workshops between Finland, Turkey and USA. Thirty years later he is still a class of his own, his virtuoso performances respected by other musicians and adored by world music audience interested in pure Roma-Balkan improvisation. |
